Trouble skinning with R4i

Hello all,

I just got my R4i yesterday. I'm able to load and save games on it, but I've been running into a couple of problems when it comes to changing the themes.

1 - Pressing 'select' at the menu doesn't swap the themes. I've tried putting the names of the theme folders into all caps and back into loewrcase, but that doesn't do anything. Right now it's just stuck at THEME05.

2 - I've tried loading a custom theme (it's from NDSthemes, if that helps any) by replacing the .bmp and .ini files in THEME05, but whenever I do, the menu screen ends up looking like this:

I've tried putting the files other preloaded themes into the THEME05 folder, and those all work perfectly. I've also tried putting the custom theme into a separate folder on the R4i and accessing it from the Multimedia menu, and the images show up fine there.

I'm currently using it on a DS Lite (which I plan on swapping in for a DSi in a month or so). I'm not sure if this is a common problem or if there's just something wrong with my R4i. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, though. Thanks!

wait for R4Visitor to answe; he knows everything about the r4i because it "works perfectly on the dsi"

The answer to the skinning problem is this :

Normal skins are are 256 x 192, pixel resolution of 96 x 96

For the R4i.cn card to work, you need Photoshop or similar, that will let you first adjust the Pixel resolution to 72 x 72,
this changes the image size, so now resize it back to 256 x 192.

I have just sussed this out, and it works.

I have replaced the default files, and have not tried to see if you can have multiple switchable themes as before.

Good luck, my card accepts 16gb, 300+ files accepted. Tried a R4i SDHC, seemed to have a 300 file limit, and had a terrible
file list menu that was animated, and listed only 6 games per page...

I have the same problem but I did not understand how to change the pixels. I've tried to change them using "Preview" app in MacOSX, and replace the theme5 files, but what I get when I change them is only a black screen (after Loading)

firebird, can you tell us how to change the pixels in full details? I have Photoshop in my computer.
Do you mean resizing the whole picture or the pixels?

Looks as if you have the same problem as i did with my r4 sdhc (ultra). here are the steps I took to make it work.
step 1: open image with photoshop
step 2: save image using photoshop (you can overwrite original or make a new save name)
step 3: after saving image you'll be presented with some bmp options (seen here) select 16 bit.

step 4: upload images to ds and you're done

Brilliant answer but I havent got photoshop. And the only other free one is gimp which i cant sem to download. SO fed up!
